Emend Drug Interactions

If you take terfenadine, astemizole, or pimozide with Emend, drug interactions may occur that could lead to life-threatening results. Drug interactions can also affect the level of medicines in your blood and increase your risk of developing side effects. Other medications that may potentially cause drug interactions with Emend include protease inhibitors, corticosteroids, and certain antibiotics or antifungals.

 

An Overview of Emend Drug Interactions

Emend® (aprepitant) can potentially interact with a few other medications. Some of these medicines that may lead to Emend interactions include:
 
  • Astemizole (Hismanal®)
  • Certain antibiotics or antifungals, including:
o Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
o Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
o Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
o Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
o Miconazole
o Telithromycin (Ketek®)
  • Certain benzodiazepines, including:
o Alprazolam (Xanax®, Xanax® XR)
  • Rifamycin antibiotics, including rifabutin (Mycobutin®), rifampin (Rifadin®), and rifapentine (Priftin®)
  • Some chemotherapy medications, including:
o Ifosfamide (Ifex®)
o Vinblastine (Velban®)
o Vincristine (Marqibo®, Oncovin®, Vincasar®)
  • Terfenadine (Seldane®)
  • Tolbutamide (Orinase®)
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
