Dasatinib Dosage

Before your healthcare provider prescribes a specific dasatinib dosage, he or she will take into consideration other medications you are taking, existing medical conditions you may have, and various other factors. This medication comes in the form of a tablet and is taken once a day. Your specific amount may be adjusted based on how you respond to the medicine.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Dasatinib

The dose of dasatinib (Sprycel®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The reason you are taking the medication
  • How you respond to it
  • Other medications you are taking.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Dasatinib Dosing Guidelines

The recommended initial dose of dasatinib for people in the chronic phase (the earliest stage) of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is 100 mg a day. Your healthcare provider may increase your amount to 140 mg a day if you do not adequately respond to the initial dosage.

The recommended initial dose for adults in the accelerated phase or blast crisis (later stages) is 140 mg a day. Your healthcare provider may increase this to 180 mg a day if you do not adequately respond to the initial dosage.

The standard initial dosage of dasatinib for people with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is 140 mg a day. Your healthcare provider may increase this amount to 180 mg a day if you do not adequately respond to the initial dose.

People who take certain other medications that alter dasatinib blood levels may need higher or lower dasatinib doses (see Drug Interactions With Dasatinib). Also, people who experience a serious decrease in blood cell counts or other severe side effects may need to temporarily stop taking dasatinib until the side effect improves. Dasatinib may then be restarted at a lower dose.
