Cometriq Uses

How Does It Work?

Cometriq belongs to a group of medications known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking tyrosine kinase, a protein in the body responsible for the growth and division of cancer cells. By blocking tyrosine kinase, Cometriq may slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells, which can slow down how quickly the disease progresses.

Is It Safe for Children to Use Cometriq?

Cometriq is not approved for use in children (usually defined as individuals younger than 18 years old), as it has not been adequately studied in this age group. Talk to your child's healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using this medicine in children.

Can Older Adults Use It?

Cometriq can be used in older adults. However, there were not enough people aged 65 and older in clinical studies to determine whether older adults will tolerate or respond to the medication the same as younger age groups. Until more information is available, it is probably safest to use this medication cautiously in older individuals.

Off-Label Cometriq Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this medicine for treating something other than the condition discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no well-accepted off-label uses for Cometriq. However, the drug is being studied for the treatment of other types of cancer, including prostate cancer.
