Can Cladribine Cause Renal Problems?

Although cladribine (Leustatin®) can be an effective chemotherapy treatment for treating certain cases of hairy cell leukemia, it may cause problems in some people. For instance, people who have kidney disease may wonder if cladribine could cause renal problems.
There have been reports of kidney damage occurring in people receiving high doses of cladribine for the treatment of conditions other than hairy cell leukemia. In some cases, the kidney damage was severe enough to require kidney dialysis. Theses renal problems were more likely to occur when cladribine was used in combination with other medications that can cause kidney problems.
