Drug Interactions With Chlorambucil

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Chlorambucil

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when chlorambucil is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Amphotericin B
People who take chlorambucil in addition to amphotericin B may have an increased risk for amphotericin B side effects, such as kidney damage, low blood pressure (hypotension), and breathing problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take these medicines together.

Biologic and Immunologic Medications
Taking chlorambucil and biologic and immunologic medications may increase the risk for potentially serious side effects, including low white blood cells, which would increase the risk for infection. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take these medications together.

Clozapine
Combining clozapine with chlorambucil may increase your risk for dangerously low white blood cell counts and infection. Your healthcare provider may need to closely monitor you if you are on clozapine and chlorambucil.

Echinacea
Echinacea is thought to stimulate the activity of the immune system, and therefore may decrease the effectiveness of chlorambucil. You should not take echinacea if you take chlorambucil, unless your healthcare provider tells you otherwise.

Live Vaccinations
As the name indicates, "live vaccines" are vaccines that contain live viruses or bacteria. Because chlorambucil can suppress the immune system, you may become infected with the virus or bacteria from the vaccine, if you receive a live vaccine during chlorambucil treatment. Also, live vaccines may be less effective in people taking chlorambucil. Talk to your healthcare provider before receiving a vaccination while you are receiving chlorambucil.
