CCNU

People who have certain types of cancer may receive chemotherapy treatment with a drug called CeeNU® (lomustine). This prescription medicine is specifically approved to treat the following conditions:

  • Brain tumors in people who have already been treated with appropriate surgery and radiation therapy
  • Hodgkin's disease in people who did not improve or who have become worse after first-line treatment.

CeeNU belongs to a group of medicines known as alkylating agents. This medicine contains the active drug lomustine, which is sometimes referred to as CCNU because its chemical name is chloroethyl-cyclohexyl-nitrosourea.

This medicine works by interfering with the process needed for cells to grow and multiply. CeeNU comes as capsules that are usually taken as a single dose once every six weeks. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, and low blood cell counts.
