Caphosol

When and How to Use It

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment include the following:

  • This product comes in the form of a liquid mouth rinse. It is normally used to rinse the mouth several times a day, usually 2 to 10 times a day.
  • Each dose consists of two separate ampules (Caphosol A and Caphosol B), which must be mixed together just prior to use.
  • Caphosol should be spit out when you are finished rinsing your mouth. Do not swallow the medication, although swallowing it is not expected to be harmful.
  • You should avoid eating, drinking, or using any other mouth wash for at least 15 minutes after each dose.
  • Do not use any Caphosol ampule that is broken, leaking, or otherwise damaged. Also, do not use the ampules if the seal is broken.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.

Dosing Information

The dose of Caphosol your healthcare provider recommends may vary, depending on a few different factors, such as:

  • The reason you are using the medicine
  • How you respond to it.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Side Effects of Caphosol

Just like any medicine, Caphosol can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses it will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.

If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.

Saliva substitutes, including Caphosol, are generally not associated with side effects. However, this does not mean you will not have any reactions to the medicine, although side effects are expected to occur only rarely.
