Brain cancer occurs when tumors develop inside the skull. There are two different types: malignant and benign. A benign brain tumor can usually be removed with surgery and often does not come back. Malignant tumors tend to grow rapidly and often spread to other places in the body.
Brain cancer can also be typed as to its origin: primary or secondary. Primary tumors begin in the brain; secondary tumors are cancer that has spread from other places in the body. These are also known as metastatic tumors and are the more common type.
