Trametinib Drug Information

Trametinib (MekinistTM) is approved to treat a certain type of skin cancer known as melanoma. It is used when the cancer has progressed and spread to other areas of the body (metastasized) or when the cancer cannot be treated with surgery. Trametinib is approved for use in adults only.

The medication comes as a tablet that is taken once daily. The initial dosage of trametinib is the same for everyone in the beginning. However, if you develop serious or intolerable side effects, you may need a lower dosage of trametinib. Side effects are common and may include diarrhea, a rash, and swelling.

If your healthcare provider recommends treatment with trametinib, he or she will need information on your medical history and any other drugs, vitamins, or supplements you are using. You should also talk to your healthcare provider before starting this medication if you are pregnant or have any allergies.
