SUTENT Medication Information

SUTENT® (sunitinib) is a prescription drug used to treat certain types of cancer, including cancer of the:

  • Kidney
  • Pancreas
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
  •
By blocking an enzyme within the body, this chemotherapy medication slows the growth of cancer cells. However, it is not a cure for cancer. SUTENT comes in the form of a capsule and is taken once a day. The capsules should be swallowed whole; do not crush, chew, cut, or open them.

In general, this product is a safe, effective medication; however, SUTENT is not suitable for everyone. For example, people with liver disease, thyroid problems, or certain allergies may need to consider a different form of chemotherapy. In addition, side effects are possible -- common ones include diarrhea, lack of energy, and nausea.
