Pertuzumab Drug Information

A healthcare provider may recommend pertuzumab (PerjetaTM) to adults who have certain types of breast cancer that have spread to other areas of the body (metastasized). This medicine is specifically approved for the treatment of breast cancer that has certain types of protein on the cancer cells. Pertuzumab binds to the receptors on these proteins, interfering with the growth of the cancer cells and signaling the immune system to destroy the cells.

This prescription drug is given as an intravenous injection by a healthcare provider once every three weeks. The dosage is the same for everyone, regardless of your age, weight, or other medical conditions you might have.

Although this can be an effective medicine for many people, not everyone can take this drug. Information on pertuzumab should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before receiving the medication to help ensure a safe treatment. For instance, pregnant women are often advised to avoid this medication, as it may harm the fetus.
