Onsolis Drug Information

Available by prescription only, OnsolisTM (fentanyl buccal soluble film) is a drug used to control breakthrough pain in people who have cancer and are using an around-the-clock pain medication. However, Onsolis may not be suitable for some people; make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on other medications you are taking before using this drug.

As a Schedule II controlled substance, Onsolis has a high potential for abuse. It may not be the best choice for someone who has a history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Onsolis comes in the form of a small film, which is dissolved in the mouth every two hours as needed for pain relief. However, do not use more than four doses each day. Although most people tolerate it well, it can cause side effects, including weakness, nausea, and vomiting.
