Morphine Sulfate ER Medication

Morphine sulfate ER ("extended release") is the generic name for several long-acting prescription pain medications. Brand names include Avinza®, Kadian®, MS Contin®, and Oramorph® SR. These are rather strong narcotic painkillers approved only for use when continuous, around-the-clock use of potent opioid medication is necessary for an extended period of time (more than a few days).

Morphine sulfate is not suitable for everyone, so it's important to discuss your medical history and current medications with your healthcare provider before starting treatment. Among the conditions that you should let your healthcare provider know about are liver disease, epilepsy, or a history of alcohol or drug abuse.
