Imatinib Drug Information
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, leukemia, and a certain kind of gastrointestinal tumor called GIST are often successfully treated with imatinib mesylate (Gleevec®). This chemotherapy medication is available in tablet form. The medicine is usually taken once or twice daily with food and a large glass of water. The tablets may also be dissolved in water or juice and the mixture drunk right away.
Prior to beginning treatment with imatinib, inform your healthcare provider about all other medical conditions you have and any other drugs you are taking, including herbal supplements and nonprescription medications. Some products can cause interactions, and your dosages may need to be adjusted.
