Gefitinib Drug Information

Gefitinib (Iressa®) is a chemotherapy medication used to treat non-small cell lung cancer. It comes as a tablet that is usually taken once a day.

Due to the information obtained during clinical trials on gefitinib, the manufacturer of the drug no longer manufacturers this product for use in the United States. These clinical studies showed that gefitinib did not improve survival, and that other medications may be more appropriate for use before gefitinib is prescribed.

Most people who take gefitinib will develop some type of side effect. Some of the most commonly reported reactions to this medicine are diarrhea, nausea, and a rash.
