Cometriq Chemotherapy Information

When used for treating medullary thyroid cancer, CometriqTM (cabozantinib) works to slow down the progression of the disease by blocking a certain protein in the body that helps cancer cells grow and multiply. This prescription chemotherapy drug is specifically approved for use in adults, and is reserved for use when the cancer has spread to other areas of the body.

Although Cometriq may help in chemotherapy treatment, not everyone can use this medication. Information on safety concerns should be discussed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to minimize your risk for certain complications. For instance, people who have had a blood clot or who are taking certain medications may not be able to safely use this product.

Cometriq comes as a capsule that is taken once daily. Most people who take this medicine will develop some type of side effect, such as diarrhea, weight loss, and mouth sores.
