Alemtuzumab Drug Information
A certain type of cancer known as B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) may be treated with alemtuzumab (Campath®). Leukemia is a disease that affects the blood and bone marrow, and this medication works by binding to a specific antigen found on the surface of a variety of white blood cells, including leukemia cells. As a result, the immune system attacks the leukemia cells.
Prior to beginning treatment with alemtuzumab, inform your healthcare provider about all other medical conditions you have and any other drugs you are taking. Live vaccinations will likely need to be avoided during treatment with this medicine. If you are a woman, tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
