Aldesleukin Drug Information

A healthcare provider may prescribe aldesleukin (Proleukin®) to help in the treatment of skin or kidney cancer in adults. It is used when the cancer has metastasized, meaning the disease has spread to other areas of the body.

Aldesleukin is a type of immunotherapy, which means it uses the body's own immune system to fight cancer. It is a synthetic version of a natural human protein, and works by stimulating the production of certain white blood cells. By attacking harmful substances in the body, such as cancer cells, these white blood cells may help the body fight off cancer cells.

Although it may be an effective medication, not everyone can use this drug. Information on aldesleukin should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before beginning treatment to help ensure your safety. For instance, you may not be able to use this product if you are taking certain medications or have lung disease.
