Clinical Trials of New Brain Cancer Treatment

Before starting brain cancer treatment, patients may want to consider taking part in a clinical trial. A treatment clinical trial is a brain cancer research study that is meant to help improve current treatments or obtain information on new treatments for patients with brain cancer. When clinical trials show that a new brain cancer treatment is better than the standard treatment, the new treatment may become the standard one.
 

Followup Care for Brain Cancer Treatment

Followup care after brain cancer treatment is important. Even when there are no longer any signs of cancer, the disease can return if there are undetected cancer cells remaining somewhere in the body. During followup care, your doctor will make sure that the tumor has not returned. Checkups may also include:
 
  • Careful physical and neurological exams
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans
  • If the patient has a shunt, the doctor will check to see that it is working well.
     
During followup care for brain cancer treatment, the doctor will explain the followup plan, which will include how often the patient must visit the doctor and what tests will be needed.
