Drug Interactions With Axitinib

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Axitinib

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when axitinib is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

CYP 1A2 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down axitinib using enzymes known as CYP 1A2 enzymes. Certain medications called CYP 1A2 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Combining axitinib with one of these CYP 1A2 inhibitors may increase the level of axitinib in your bloodstream, potentially increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely for side effects, and decrease your axitinib dose if needed, if you take it with a CYP 1A2 inhibitor.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down axitinib using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Certain medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Combining axitinib with one of these CYP 3A4 inducers may decrease the level of axitinib in your bloodstream, potentially making it less effective. In general, axitinib should not be used with CYP 3A4 inducers if at all possible.

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down axitinib using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Certain medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Combining axitinib with one of these CYP 3A4 inhibitors may increase the level of axitinib in your bloodstream, potentially increasing your risk for side effects. In general, axitinib should not be used with strong CYP 3A4 inhibitors. If these medications must be used together, the axitinib dosage should be reduced by approximately half.
