A healthcare provider may recommend chemotherapy treatment with Alkeran® (melphalan) for adults with ovarian cancer or multiple myeloma. Available in the form of injections that are given into a vein (intravenous, or IV, injections) or as tablets, Alkeran can help relieve symptoms of these forms of cancer and may help slow down the progression of the disease; however, this drug cannot cure the cancer.
Alkeran tablets are approved to treat multiple myeloma and a type of cancer of the ovaries known as epithelial ovarian cancer. The injectable form of the medication is used to treat multiple myeloma in people who cannot take Alkeran by mouth.
The recommended dosage is highly individualized for each person, and will depend on things like your height and weight, the reason the medicine is being given, and other medications you are taking.
