Alkeran Drug Interactions
Alkeran Drug Interactions ExplainedThe following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Alkeran is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Giving amphotericin B in combination with anticancer medicines, including Alkeran, may increase the risk for potentially serious amphotericin B side effects, such as kidney damage, low blood pressure (hypotension), and breathing problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take these medicines together.
Biologic and Immunologic Medications
If you take certain biologic and immunologic medicines during Alkeran treatment, you could have an increased risk for potentially serious side effects, including infections and anemia. Alkeran should not be used in combination with some biologic or immunologic medicines, while other combinations will require dosage adjustments or close monitoring. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you are taking a biologic or immunologic medicine during Alkeran treatment.
Alkeran may increase the risk for lung damage from carmustine. Therefore, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you closely for lung problems if you are being treated with both Alkeran and carmustine.
Cisplatin can cause kidney damage. Because people with kidney disease may require lower doses of Alkeran, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you closely, and possibly adjust your Alkeran dose if you take it with cisplatin.
Taking clozapine and Alkeran together may cause extremely low white blood cell counts, which would increase your risk for life-threatening infections. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you take clozapine. However, you should not stop taking clozapine unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
