The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when Abstral is combined with any of the drugs listed above.Alcohol
Consuming alcohol while taking Abstral could potentially increase your risk for serious side effects, including extreme drowsiness, confusion, or difficulty breathing. You should not drink alcohol while using this medication.
Alvimopan
Abstral may increase the risk for serious alvimopan side effects. Do not take alvimopan if you have used Abstral in the past seven days.
Amphetamines
Combining amphetamines with Abstral may increase the pain-relieving effects of Abstral. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your response if you take these drugs together. You might need a lower Abstral dosage.
Beta Blockers
Taking Abstral with a beta blocker may lower your heart rate and blood pressure to potentially unsafe levels. If you take these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor your blood pressure and heart rate more closely.
Calcium Channel Blockers
Taking Abstral with certain calcium channel blockers may lower your heart rate and blood pressure to potentially unsafe levels. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor your blood pressure and heart rate more closely if you take these medications together.
CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The body breaks down Abstral using enzymes in the liver known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Combining Abstral with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Abstral in your body, making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely to make sure your pain is adequately controlled if you take Abstral with a CYP 3A4 inducer.
